Bald Eagle
Sightings report image

Date: 03/20/2013

Number: 1

We have (had?) a pair nesting in our pasture for the first time this year! Have been watching off and on for about 3-4 weeks, as the BIG "baby" became more visible as it stood higher and higher up the sides of the nest. Last time we saw it, it was almost on the rim with the wind ruffling it's dark feathers. But, haven't seen either adult or the young one since Mar. 16...road work started nearby on Mar. 18.
Question: Once the young eagle begins to fly and is learning to hunt, do they mostly stay away from the nest, abandon the nest completely, only return at night, .... WHAT? I hope that's what has occurred and not something else!
