Tulips EMERGED
Sightings report image

Date: 03/20/2013

Number: 1

A little slower than we predicted, spring has sprung in Newark!
We cleared away the straw mulch to find these bright red tulip tips. Some of us guessed that this was the flower bud, but we learned that the leaves come out curled into this spear shape to push through the soil.
We also crocuses in full bloom and spinach and collard greens that had survived the winter. Since we have had this sign of spring we know that it is almost time to plant our peas!
