Ice-Out
Sightings report image

Date: 03/28/2013

Number: 1

The two ponds 4 blocks from our school finally were free of ice this weekend. We also drove to a small lake 30 miles from here and found it was free of ice. Just two weeks ago, people were still ice fishing there, but warm weather and wind has melted the ice in the waters around here. Big Spring Creek which flows through town stays open all winter and can yield nice rainbow and brown trout from fly fishing. In fact, standing in the creek in hip boots helps warm the body when the air temperature is very cold.
