During a weekend camping trip at Ackley Lake, we were able to observe many species of birds. We watched 5 Sandhill Cranes and several Mountain Bluebirds in a field next to the lake, a large flock of over 300 Buffleheads, many Western Grebes, several Killdeer on the shore of the lake, four Canada Geese, and many Common Mergansers, and many California Gulls. We expected to see Western Meadowlark but did not. Late spring snowstorm has dumped 6 inches of wet snow and temps are 20 degrees below seasonal average.
