I thought I heard a familiar song just as night was falling yesterday (and the raindrops were starting to pitter-patter on the roof)... and this morning, in the early sun... I heard it again.... PHOEBES ARE BACK!!!!! One of my most favourite signs of spring - I rejoice to see and hear these beautiful little bug-eaters.. they are checking out the old nest sites at the front of the house- hope they pick a good place again this year. it is +11C this afternoon and sun/cloudy..with more rain predicted for the evening... hoping to hear the spring peepers tonight, although there is still ice showing on the ponds. a couple pairs of geese have been hanging around the big pond- maybe they will stay again this year. yesterday I filled the feeder and had a flock of yellow warblers come to visit. redwings are feeding on the ground under the feeder. not many flies out yet - been too cold at night.
