just finished bottling the last of the maple syrup for 2013... only had 24 taps this year- trees were so stressed from drought last year... but they have kindly given me 5.5, 5.5, and 4.75 litres of syrup.. the first two were golden and so light... today's was much darker. took out the taps on April 7 because I am off to teach about monarchs in Niagara this week and the weather this week isn't going to be good for sapping... we have had very strange sap weather this year- it only ran a couple of days every week... the big producers are still sucking sap from the trees, but us little guys who do things the "old way" accept what the trees give us and don't ask for too much... chi-miigwetch nininatigun for your beautiful gifts!!!
