Last summer we had a couple of robins successfully build a nest on the horizontal surface of a downspout right outside our living room bay window. We watched as they incubated the eggs (2 or 3?), hatched, fed and guarded nestlings, and stayed with them as two left the nest. I watched two fledglings hop/fall off the nest and disappear into the landscaping. Eventually the parents and babies were gone.
The couple have been back for a day or so and are busy strengthening the nest and making it nice and comfy! I saw a video on your website of a female robin working on her nest and the same motions I saw on the video, this Mom is doing as well - lowering her neck (like she's resting her neck on the side of the nest), raising up her rear and scratching like crazy with her feet; she does this while she is rotating her body around the nest, so as to make the bedding nice and smooth and perfectly symmetrical.
