I've lived here for six years and this is my first time seeing a hummingbird! I've been recently attracting other birds to my yard with fruit and nuts and water and some seed for ground feeders. I have a wall/fence covered in freshly blooming jasmine and today I saw the hummingbird feeding on these flowers on three occasions over the course of an hour. I've looked at images of both the rufous and ruby and have ruled out the rufous, and cannot confirm the ruby. If it is a ruby, then it must be a female because it is without the red plumes. I don't know what other species it could be so I'm without better comparison photos. Clearly, I am no expert. But I'll be certainly keeping an eye out for more sightings to share! Thank you for the work you do! I'm happy to find people with whom to share this happy news!
