Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 04/14/2013

Number: 1

Woo Hoo!!! I put out my first feeder last week as I observed the hummers getting closer on the map. Today I had my first male visitor. He is looking thin and is feeding every 10 minutes this afternoon and has been resting on the perches as he feeds.(Later in the year I rarely see them perch as they feed.) I am excited to see them return. My camellia bushes are in full bloom nearby and he has been sitting on their twigs between feedings some of the time.

I am always amazed that these tiny birds can fly so far in their migrations. Go Hummingbirds!!!!
