Monarch (OTHER Observations)
Sightings report image

Date: 04/14/2013

Number: 1

Very warm and mostly sunny for the past few days with good southerly breezes. Our high today was 86 and it felt like it….not ready for temps in that range yet.

I’m seeing abundant asperula patches along the roadside and in the fields here in Central Texas. Not seeing hardly any new eggs though….we did harvest a solitary egg from a small A. asperula plant on the back of our lot yesterday (13 April). We also spotted a few faded Monarchs passing quickly overhead at almost treetop height with no interest in stopping. We had this remigrant male (top photo) on Saturday (13 April) spend some time in one of our prairie verbeena patches.

The eggs from A. asperula plants found mid last month (I believe 18 and 19 March) have resulted in some fresh wings in the past few days (bottom photo). It’s great to see their bright colors in the vegetation around us and it appears some of them have decided to stay for awhile. We’ve been watching them most of the weekend.
