just came back from Niagara early because of weather report- we have now received almost 3/4 of an inch of freezing rain on top of ice pellets and wet sticky snow... trees are cracking and breaking all around the farm.. no power for two days (friday and saturday)...lost the beautiful big cherry tree- one stem broke off and the rest of the tree slowly bent over and lifted out of the ground to rest on paul's walnut tree. white birch trees are bent in half and the bitternut hickory has lost three trunks...glad we took the taps of out of the maples last sunday altho the big producers are still tapping... cant sleep on friday night because of the sounds of cracking and breaking branches... so sad to see some of my favourite trees in pain. doesn't look like spring at all around here!
