Tulips BLOOMED
Sightings report image

Date: 04/11/2013

Number: 1

Success! We were very lucky this year planting our Red Emperor Tulips. Although we did not suffer from any squirrel damage this year we did have other problems. Halfway through our experiment the school started a major construction project on the school grounds causing us to lose several tulip sites. We still managed to get our first 4 tulip blooms on April 11, 2013 (only 27 days from emergence). The class determined an average predicted bloom date of 4/14/13; so they were only off by 3 days (they felt this was due to 4 days of 80+ temperatures just days before they bloomed). On April 18, 2013 we recorded our last data with 73 out of 93 planted tulips having bloomed; giving us an 80 % success rate! That will be difficult for our class to beat next year! We hope other schools had as much fun as we did this year planting tulips!
