Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/18/2013

Number: 1

I collected all of the eggs and caterpillars I could find in my butterfly house and brought them inside to hatch and grow. They are hatching in three days time and counting eggs and caterpillars I have 453 of them. When they finish their 4th instar I put them in hatching boxes where I can keep them safe from predators or bad weather that might harm them. Once they mate in the butterfly house and start laying eggs I keep them for a few days with food and host plants and then release them into my garden where they continue to lay eggs on the tropical milkweed in the yard. It is incredibly awesome to see so many survive. It is going to be a good productive season for the Monarchs in my way station #4551. It feels so good to know I helped them along and gave them a place to rest along their way.
