Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 04/23/2013

Number: 1

It seems we have two male and two female Ruby Throated hummingbirds residing in the trees between our neighbor's yard and ours. All four birds frequent our feeder, right outside our kitchen window. We believe the two males and one of the two females have returned from last year, as their markings are familiar to us: one male has a very bright red throat (he buzzed our window to let us know when they were back in town), while the other male is mostly black with a very thin line of red. The "returned" female has an unusually long beak. They are not at all bothered by our observations of them. Their food supply has not yet run down, but we are certain they will alert us when it does!
