Very tame migrating robin pulled and gulped down a half dozen earthworms out of the newly uncovered grass along the sidewalk at the Stillwater Library in a short time as I watched from the steps just a foot or two away. Robins showed up here last week in flocks of 40 or more on the same day as the crab apple fruits from 2012 began falling. Despite late snows, we hear them welcoming the sun every morning and are still awaiting ice out on inland lakes here-about five weeks behind last year and three weeks late for the season.
