Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 04/29/2013

Number: 1

YAY! Late this afternoon, I spotted my first hummer of the season at my feeder. My feeder has been out for the last two weeks, but the weather has still been fairly cold and I thought that's what was keeping them away. I filled my feeder with a stronger sugar ratio because I read that the hummers appreciate the extra fuel after their long migration. I saw my first one today and am unsure if it was a Rufous or a Ruby-Throat, as it looked very sleek and it had a pure black color on it's back.
It didn't perch, but simply drank on the wing and then was gone.
I saw another one fly by my kitchen window and can hear them peeping in the trees. I'm so glad they're back for the season!
