Laura and I visited Rio Salado today. There are at most 4 to 5 monarchs here for the winter while in late November there were 20. This habitat has seriously degraded and there is little in the way of protection from temperature extremes. (The following week there were 4 consecutive nights of a hard freeze and no further monarchs were seen.)
