Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/01/2013

Number: 1

I was determined to be ready for my hummers early this year.Had my feeders up April 1st. So I have been waiting a whole month:)
I saw all the postings in NJ in every town around me for quite a while and was getting so discouraged with no sight of them. I went away for three days and came back today and tonight around
7pm saw my first hummers. Two for sure. Perhaps three. I know positively I have a male and female Ruby Throated pair. The male
playing king of the feeder perched on the shepherd's hook that holds the feeder. Yay!! At last the wait is over. Another wonderful season watching these magnificent birds and their antics. Hoping they tell their friends and I have many. One year I had about 8. Last year not that many. My brother told me to plant catnip.. yes catnip!! Hummingbirds are attracted to it. Will give it a try. Let you know next year if it works. It will
be amongst my rose garden and other flowers I plant which are
much prettier than catnip..Just thrilled they are back.
