All Other Signs of Spring

Date: 05/01/2013

Number: 1

Sudden summer temperatures (27o Celcius today) have forced spring to rush into existence. Saw forsythia blooming. Daffodil heads are just emerging. Looking down from my apartment building, suddenly there is a green mist on the trees that hides the house roofs and street surfaces I've been seeing clearly all winter. The leaves will probably be forced out by the weekend. Sometimes it can take up to three weeks to go from bud to full leaf, but this year it will be fast. Knees and midriffs have burst out of the quilted winter coats we were wearing last week. But 60 km. to the north, there is still ice on the lake at the top of the mountain. There spring comes more slowly this year.
