Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/04/2013

Number: 1

First new generation monarch spotted in far northern California (about 30 miles northwest of Redding, Calif.)

Today on NorWestLeps@yahoogroups.com Ray Bruun wrote: "Rob Santry and I checked out a couple of locations in west-central Shasta County, CA: Cline Gulch and a location near Buckhorn Summit on Highway 299 (near the Shasta/Trinity
County line)" and among the 24 species of butterflies they saw was one monarch. Ray later wrote to me and said: "It was in good condition, checking out a type of broad-leaved, purplemilk-weed, which is pretty common in the area.  It is within a hundred yards of the location on the north side of Cline Gulch Road."
