Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/05/2013

Number: 1

First migrating male! 8:20 AM, 64 degrees, East habitat. Red flags on 8 foot poles, and pink survey tape near each feeder, with perches (tall slender branches attached to feeding Shepard hooks). Feeders have been available since April 21st. Natural blooms--dogwood, Dicentria Luxuriants (bleeding hearts) daffodils, and pachysandra. Our tiny winged and welcomed guest continued to travel. Residents always perch, rest , preen, eat, and stay :) Residents generally arrive between May 6th and 8th. Accolades to citizen scientists South of us who have lovingly put nectar feeders out so the small Winged Wonders may successfully complete their journey.
