Monarch Waystation #299 at the Virginia Living Museum is happy to report the first monarch adult seen on the grounds!
I saw a monarch checking over milkweeds in the Children's Learning Garden between 3:30 and 4 pm today. Because I was interacting with the public I couldn't look long enough to see if the monarch was faded or fresh, or its gender. It only seemed to "touch and go," not linger long enough to lay an egg or rest. It may have been startled by visitors to the garden. After the monarch left the common milkweeds were searched but no eggs were found.
