Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/12/2013

Number: 1

First hummer I've seen this year. It was at 9:30 am on May 12, 2013 and I'm so glad they're here finally.

May 25th update:

During the spring snow storm on 5/25/13, I was very concerned for the hummers who had only been in my area a short time. Maybe still building their nests so shelter is limited. I saw them sitting in the big pine trees. They did have a difficult time getting to the feeders. The heavy snow seemed to make it difficult for them to fly, and they were hovering only a foot off the ground. Both my feeders are under an overhang. Once they got to the porch they could feed fast and furious. I always get two pair every year that stay all summer. Hopefully, there are no more snow storms.
