Robin (Nesting Behavior)
Sightings report image

Date: 05/15/2013

Number: 1

2 of the extra 4 eggs laid a week later then the initial 3, have hatched. The first 3 I fear will smother the newer hatchlings due to their nest already filled to the max with their larger size. In the photo, you will see just one hatchling raising it's beak up between the larger 2 in the back. I went in to grab my tools and spotted 2 of the day old hatchlings as well as one of the other eggs. I quickly went back to grab my camera and found them in this new position.
Momma Robin as well as the Male have become VERY defensive, more so then I experienced the previous year. If I am raking in the garden just 10 ft away, I am battered with their yells and swooping if they become alert to my presence either by the sound of my children or she spots me through the window.
