Sightings report image

Date: 05/16/2013

Number: 1

Migration this year hasn't been much different from previous years in terms of numbers or frequency. If anything a little above average on numbers. Plenty of Milkweed, plenty of nectar flowers. Gen 1 drifts through, each on its own schedule. We rarely see many at once. They keep moving north so numbers never build up. This year everything just started late due to cold and stretched out due to temperatures well below average from mid march to 3 days ago.

Gen1 numbers slowly drop with time. Then usually a pause until Gen 2 emerges.

Gen 2 emerges around mid May. And they quickly leave. No Gen 3 here. If we are two weeks behind last year, then Gen 2 isn't due for another week.

I did however see a gen 1 today. Not the record latest sighting for Gen 1, but it was the latest egg. Monarch flew by, laid an egg, then flew a few feet to a verbina to feed. I happened to have a camera in my hand. I'll send images by email.
