Robin (Nesting Behavior)
Sightings report image

Date: 05/01/2013

Number: 1

A pair of American Robins made a nest in my rose topiary. 4 beautiful blue eggs appeared in the nest on 5/1/13. I have observed them everyday since. On 5/9/13 3 of the eggs began to crack. On 5/10/13, 3 baby robins hatched and on 5/11/13 the last of the 4 baby robins hatched. On 5/15/13 the eyes opened for the first time and the baby robins began to chirp. The mama and daddy have been working hard to bring food throughout the day. The baby robins are growing quickly, with new feather growth each day. My students (3rd -5th) have enjoyed the progress as much as I have, with daily reports on the babies. We have even named them, Eggbert, Herbert, Filbert, and Maggie.
