Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/16/2013

Number: 1

We had one monarch in the backyard flying around at about 4 pm.

I am 100% positive it was a monarch. We raise monarchs every year from eggs & caterpillars we find in our yard and our neighbors. We have several patches of Common Milkweed that is up about 8-10 inches and have several sets of real leaves. As of yet I have only seen two monarchs and no eggs yet. We also have a few Swamp Milkweed plants that we started last year from seed. that are about the same height etc.
I agree that it is odd to have a monarch this soon with how late spring was for us this year. We usually start seeing them after Memorial Day.

My husband thought maybe they were released at a wedding, since we live near a park that is used for weddings quite often, and we saw two within a day or two of each other.
