Sightings report image

Date: 05/04/2013

Number: 1

At first, I saw only 2 adult monarchs and several eggs on my milkweed. But now, two weeks later, I've seen at least 6 more adults and now my milkweed plants have been eaten down to the stems. I observed approximately 12-15 caterpillars on each plant. I have about 14 milkweed plants and they were all full of hungry caterpillars all different stages (sizes). I've never had this many. I found myself moving them around so the ones hatching later would have enough to eat. I also observed aggressive behavior among them as they were fighting over access to the milkweed. Never noticed this before. Some were crawling away avoiding the frenzy. Very exciting to have this many. Glad I could help them on their way back.
