Last Tuesday a friend said he saw a Monarch at Reynolda Gardens in Winston-Salem. On Thursday he showed me a cellphone picture that he took of a Monarch male on Wednesday in a park on Polo Road.
Editor's Note: Monarch caterpillars are available for purchase from a local butterfly farm and were on display at the Piedmont Earth Day Fair Monarchs and Milkweed booth on April 27. They eclosed on May 15. Milkweed is plentiful however, no eggs have been reported in this area (5/27/13). It is possible these were raised monarchs.
