Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 05/25/2013

Number: 1

Here in northern New Jersey I have an overabundance of Milkweed which is
taking over and not a Monarch or egg in sight. Last year it was just the
opposite. Last year on May 5th I had a female depositing eggs on the few
stalks of common that I had and by the end of the day I had 60 eggs and not
enough milkweed to feed them all. This year no eggs and Common Milkweed is
coming up not only in the garden but now all over the front lawn and even
poking through my driveway. If the Monarchs don't come soon then I'm going
to have to cut back some of the milkweed because it is now crowding out
everything else, which is competing for light and the Milkweed is winning
out. I could sure use a few dozen "Hungry Caterpillars". It's no wonder
there are no Monarchs as the weather here is just downright nasty.
