Only 6 of our 18 bulbs emerged and 5 of those that emerged blossomed this year. So, 12 of our bulbs never even emerged. We decided to dig up our bulbs to find out why they did not emerge. A lot of the ones we dug up were really rotten. They were mushy and stinky. There were so many worms in the soil! Four of the bulbs were never found, but we did put a net layer down in the fall to prevent them from being dug up by critters. We are moving our garden next year because this spot is too wet.
