I observed an orange butterfly flying across my yard. I was certain that it was a monarch, but did not want to report it to you since I had not been able to see it land and get close enough for a real identification. It had come from our field and flown over my head across the yard toward another field. Two hours later I went to our field and checked the new milkweed there. I found an egg. That is why I am comfortable reporting the sighting now.
