I live in a home in Westchester County, New York. Our relatively-modern community of homes have perfect nesting spots under the deck for Robins. Each year, we get lots of Robins choosing the underside of our deck to make nests.

This season, something strange has happened. A mother Robin built a new nest on top of a previous one - then, built another nest in the next "section" under the deck - roughly 1.5 feet apart. To my shock, she laid 2 blue eggs in each of the two nests! And, she shifts back and forth sitting on the two nests! I have never heard of this before. My concern is that dividing up the time will somehow cause neither of the babies to hatch. Or, if they do, will she know enough to bring food to both nests? From all I have read, this is a very unique situation.

I contacted robin expert Len Eiserer on Facebook and he was so kind as to write me a detailed response.  He mentioned that these super-ideal nest locations can spark the idea to make more than one nest.  The location really is perfect, which is why everyone on this road has decks loaded with nests. I'd so greatly appreciate any feedback on this anyone else could provide.
