Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 06/18/2013

Number: 1

At the end of a session of our "Monarch Butterfly Waystation Project" with our neighborhood children (8 today)we saw a bloom on a common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca). This is the first milkweed that we have seen in bloom this year. Ironically it was not in our WI Native Prairie, which is our waystation site, but in a small street-side garden of an adjoining, to our prairie, neighbor. The bloom was tucked down in the plant. Even with all of the eyes of our participants, we have not seen any eggs, or caterpillars on our numerous milkweed in our prairie. I have only seen one or two butterflies in my own gardens.
