A Robin had built her nest in my front porch light. I observed her from my living room window. I was amazed at how after the babies hatched the mother and father were feeding the babies. Then one day I noticed a third bird that was also flying into the nest and taking a turn at feeding the babies. It was a Blackbird. I was alarmed, afraid that the bird would hurt them. She did not. Then came the day the babies came out of the nest. All of them pretty much the same day. They were all four all over the place.
They were on my swing and in my tree directly in front of the porch, and on the porch railing. I watched the three birds continue their parenting. The same day all three babies and the Robin parents were gone. One baby was still hanging around and couldn't seem to get very far. The Blackbird stayed with the last baby and fed it
and it kept moving up. First the bush, then railing and then the tree. Each time I checked the baby was higher in the tree. The Blackbird was fostering the baby. This was amazing to me. Do birds help each other. Do mothers who loose their nests help other mothers?
