Spotted first adult monarch of season feeding in sizeable butterfly border. Young and small, it looks like a female, so I hope she lays lots of eggs. The garden is loaded with blooming milkweed in fine condition.
Contained on 2 acre residential property are several gardens of Echinacea (purpurea and hybrid Pow-Wow), Rudbeckia, (Hirta and Goldstrum), Liatris, Russian Sage, Daylilies, Balloon Flower, Bee Balm, and 3 kinds of blooming milkweed (Common-Syriaca, Marsh-Incarnata, and Butterflyweed-Tuberosa).
No pesticides are used on this property and a newly planted 1/4 acre field will ensure an even larger area of monarch support plants for next year.
Thanks, Lorraine
