I spotted my first adult Monarch Butterfly of the year flying more or less randomly around at Lockport Prairie Nature Preserve. There are several varieties of milkweed available here, including Common, Swamp, Butterflyweed, and maybe others. However, all the milkweed plants seemed rather far along (budding or in flower or beyond, leaves seemed old and tough). We'll be visiting here again and will watch for eggs and larvae.
