I have been seeing your recent comments on the shortage of monarchs in various places across the nation in the past few days.
I can certainly verify your observations here in central Iowa. For the first time in 40 years, we have seen no monarchs at all in our butterfly garden. As you probably have noticed in the past, our large garden has attracted monarchs readily for all of those years.
We have a beautiful stand of milkweeds this summer, but I have found no evidence of monarchs having been on the plants.
I will keep you posted if the situation changes.
