Follow-up on Mama Monarch in north Austin.
Watched her lay eggs 2 wks ago. Found holes eaten in milkweed leaves, but no tiny cats visible 1 week ago...still hopeful. Today, still no cats, UNTIL,while sitting as I potted some milkweed seedlings to give to a friend, I spotted ONE good-sized larva on the underside of a leaf...not visible unless down low, from the side! Didn't have a camera, but plucked the leaf to finish the cat's growth indoors. Did take a pic before putting it in a cage. Hum, it has grown quickly OUTside (high 90s to low 100s), will be interesting to see how much the growth slows down now with 70s A/C.
