Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 07/16/2013

Number: 1

Saw a male for about 15 seconds in my yard. By the time I went inside and got my camera it was gone. I've got plenty of milkweed in my gardens, but no females yet to lay any eggs.

This is the first Monarch of the season. In the NABA group I'm part of, there have only been 3 or 4 sightings in the entire St. Louis greater area. I usually raise Monarchs every year and usually have one or two hanging around most of the summer - not this year. Also a friend ordered 15 monarch larvae to raise and they all died. I wonder if there is also a disease problem?
