Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 07/17/2013

Number: 1

FINALLY, an adult Monarch in the yard today nectaring on white butterfly bush and laying eggs. It was a worn female, laying sometimes 2 eggs to a leaf on the very mature common milkweed plants in my yard. Have been looking every day for signs for 2 months. Latest day/month for the first adult Monarch to arrive here for as long as I can remember. Will begin the collecting of eggs today and raising the young, so that more will be available for migration. At least one generation of Monarchs will be skipped, with this late 1st adult arrival. So happy that it is an egg-laying female!
