Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 07/20/2013

Number: 1

Tonight I saw the first monarch of the season at my house. A female. Such a long and worrisome wait. She was resting on a yew near the milkweed patch, fanning her wings in the sun. A bit later, she chased off a mourning cloak then returned to alight upon a flowering milkweed. She is currently flitting above the patch. Just yesterday I checked 50 plants for eggs and larvae and found none. It's a happy day.
