Monarch Egg (FIRST sighted)

Date: 07/20/2013

Number: 1

11 eggs were found singly on the underside of milkweed leaves in my backyard and adjacent trails near the Hadati Marsh in Guelph. Given the distinct milky appearance of the eggs(ie no black cap) the eggs where recently laid within the past two to four days(will know for sure when hatching occurs). Note that this is the latest I've ever discovered eggs in the past 50 years...and have yet to see a monarch adult here in the Guelph area this year, although fellow lepidopterists have seen males about one week ago along the north shore of Lake Erie near Long Point.
