This is only the second monarch I have seen this year. The first was a "fly by" in my backyard. Since 2010, I have been photographing the monarch caterpillar and butterfies in my butterfly garden. I saw one monarch caterpillar (07/12/13) on a volunteer swamp milkweed that stood about 8 inches high. My swamp milkweed have not yet bloomed, and my butterfly weed is ready to pop open. I have a zone 5 butterfly bush that has been in bloom for the past several weeks. I look forward to the prediction that we may see more from August through November.
