Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 07/23/2013

Number: 1

Our participants in our Monarch Butterfly Waystation Project have been combing our Native WI Prairie, a registered Waystation, for indications of Monarchs. They have seen chew marks on leaves but no butterflies, eggs, or larvae until Devin, with keen eyes, spotted a larva on a Swamp Milkweed leaf. It is probably a 1st instar. The Swamp Milkweed plant was close to the pond's edge. Other than about two sightings of a Monarch Butterfly, we have seen nothing else. Our neighborhood children that are taking part in this Waystation project are eager for more caterpillars.
