While visiting the Prairie restoration of Nygren Wetland Preserve,(property of the Natural Land Institute), I observed several (~1/2 dozen) Monarchs during the mid morning hours. I saw one female actually lay an egg on a Common Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca)leaf! There is lots of Whorled Milkweed on site too, but I never spotted any Monarch Caterpillars while touring the Prairie areas. I'm sure there must be some out there, though the numbers are probably low.
