July 15 First monarch at my farm in Marshall, Virginia (Fauquier County)

July 17 A single monarch here in Marshall, Virginia.

July 18 Two monarchs seen at Big Meadows off Skyline Drive close to milepost 51

July 19 I have seen a couple more monarchs and a viceroy here on the farm over the past few days of swelteringly hot weather.  Yesterday to escape for at least part of the day I went up on the Skyline Drive where the syriaca is everywhere blooming and looking delicious. I did see a few monarchs over the course of the morning.  A gorgeous butterfly but not abundant even in the park. I hope that there will be more to come.
