Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 07/31/2013

Number: 1

This year we started very slowly only about 8 birds in the spring. During July the numbers have risen dramatically to about 25. This is still not the numbers we normally see. Seeing some fat babies right now, they look like a flying egg. Our Hibiscus are blooming in great profusion and this appears to have drawn in many more Hummers. We live in a heavily forested area in Appalachia.
