Hummingbird, Rufous (FIRST)

Date: 07/31/2013

Number: 1

My hummingbird feeder had only been up for 2 days. This morning 2 hummingbirds came by -- but they weren't the usual ruby throated. One had a bright, iridescent coppery orange band around its neck. The other had grayish coloring and was skittish. Best I can tell, they were a pair of Rufous Hummingbirds. I got a photo of the female. Hopefully they will return tomorrow and will try to photograph the male. This is a first and I have lived here since 1978.
