Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 08/05/2013

Number: 11

The garden is still busy with hummingbirds, largely male and female Anna's but the pattern has changed. Most of the rufous have left for the season, though a few juvenal males remain behind. They still come to the feeders (which I keep filled the year round) but visit mostly at dawn and dusk. That makes it hard for me to get decent photos right now, because the trees are in full leaf, throwing much of the garden into deep shade, and the hummers prefer the sunny spots. They do, however, actively hawk for insects all day long.
